THE FAMILY BEHIND OUR NAME

Why Pawson exists.

In memory of Ron and Barbara Pawson.

Pawson Career Institute was founded in memory of our grandparents, whose lives taught our family how much compassionate care can mean.

Our grandfather, Ron Pawson, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis while his children were young. As his care needs increased, he moved into a nursing home, where he spent roughly 30 years. Unable to move from the neck down, he depended on others for everyday care.

His CNA gave him something deeply important alongside that care: someone to talk to. Her companionship and steady presence made a lasting difference to him and our family. She meant so much to him that she was recognized in his obituary.

The person behind the care.

That experience stays with us. We want students to understand the importance of listening, protecting dignity, and treating each person as someone with a life, relationships, and a voice. Those responsibilities belong alongside the practical skills of caregiving.

The family behind the student.

Our grandmother carried the responsibility of raising and supporting her family while her husband needed long-term care. Her determination is part of our school’s story, too.

Many students come to healthcare training while raising children, working, and supporting people who depend on them. We recognize what they are working toward. That is why we place value on clear expectations, personal guidance, and helping students understand the steps ahead.

Our grandparents’ legacy shapes our purpose: prepare capable caregivers who see the person in their care, and support students as they work toward their own families’ futures.
