End The Caregiver Shortage Crisis: Become a Professional Caregiver

As the elderly population reaches retirement age and beyond, the United States is facing a caregiver deficit. Not enough people in the caregiving profession are available to take care of our seniors. According to Susan Misiorski, BSN, there are homecare agencies turning down clients in need of care because they don’t have enough staff members to assign to their case. Every day in the United States, Roughly 10,000 baby boomers turn 65. Plain and simple, our population is growing older and sicker by the day. Of the senior population, more and more are choosing to look for in-home care services and remain in their home longer rather than relocating to a nursing home.

What does this mean for you?

If you’ve ever considered becoming a professional caregiver but were unsure of the job outlook and employment opportunities, rest assured that there will be jobs available if you possess the right qualifications and training. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that personal care aides, home health assistants, and nurse tech jobs will be three of the top growing professions by the year 2022.

Perhaps you’ve been a family caregiver for an aging parent or loved one but would like to care for others. Programs like PCI’s Certified Homemaker Home Health Aide, train and assist you in becoming certified in the state of New Jersey. As a veteran of the program, I trained alongside of many family caregivers who were eager to increase their knowledge about caregiving and be compensated. Caregiving is a demanding yet rewarding job and deserves compensation.

Comfort Keepers welcomes every opportunity to interview students of PCI in hopes to add them to their team of compassionate, dedicated staff. Participating in a PCI training program will give you a competitive advantage among other potential caregivers seeking employment. The connections you make during your training are important, and could potentially help land you a job which is the ultimate goal!

Do you Have What it Takes?

If you are compassionate, diligent, and ready to make a difference in someone’s life, then you are a perfect candidate for a professional caregiver. I received my training through Pawson Career Institute and met so many wonderful people both student and staff that made my experience well-worthwhile. After meeting with clients, and settled into my role as a home health aide, I can say that I would not be where I am without the training I received through PCI. While no amount of training can fully-prepare you for every type of situation that you will encounter, being able to ask questions of staff members who have actual industry experience expanded my knowledge and brought light to many things that I wouldn’t have expected otherwise.

I highly suggest taking a look at the program schedule to see if there is a time that best fits your personal schedule. Once you determine a specific session you would like to attend; you will complete a registration form and be contacted by a staff member with confirmation to start attending classes. I suggest starting the process right away! Dive right in!
