Barbara Pawson
1947 - 2022

Barbara graduated from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick, NJ, and went on to earn her MBA from Rider University, where she met her husband, Ron.

“In the 1980s, caring for chronically ill family members in the home was neither common nor affordable; and although we worked tirelessly to find help, we were ultimately forced to send him to live in a nursing home.”

Her experiences shaped a lasting belief in the value of accessible, high-quality care for every family.

Ron Pawson
1946 - 2008

A graduate of Rider University and an accountant for IBM, Ron was a young professional with a bright future when he was diagnosed with Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 1982.

Despite the challenges of his illness, Ron remained optimistic and deeply valued the compassion and connection he received from his caregivers. He spent nearly 30 years in long-term care, where the support he received left a lasting impact on both him and his family.

Before his passing in 2008, Ron requested that his caregivers be honored alongside his loved ones in his obituary — a testament to the profound role they played in his life.

Honoring the past by training those who will care for the future.

Ron and Barbara’s legacy lives on through their children and grandchildren, who have become founders of home care agencies and healthcare training programs across the East Coast. In 2016, their daughter, Stephanie established the New Jersey Caregiver Academy, a Home Health Aide training program. Their Granddaughter, Kelsey, went on to found Pawson Career Institute in 2022.

These efforts share one commitment: to ensure that all families have access to safe, compassionate, and affordable healthcare services. Ron and Barbara’s story continues to inspire the belief that quality caregiving transforms lives.
